AMMAN — Representatives from the commercial sector
said that lowering the electricity tariff would not significantly affect the
prices of goods in the local market, because they are linked to external
factors and determinants, according to Jordan News Agency, Petra.

They said that the commercial sector is influenced by several
price determinants, with the electricity cost being one of those determinants, stressing
that high prices of raw materials, global freight wages, taxes and customs
duties, and operating costs all affect the
price of goods locally.
The
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources estimated the
value of savings from the removal of electrical tariff distortions at about JD50
million, none of which will end up in the state treasury, but would be directed
to support economic sectors.
