The program will be
launched in the first quarter of this year, according to Steitieh, and will
prioritize women and beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund.
The government has
approved the National Employment Program as part of the government's economic
priorities for 2021–2023, upon Royal directives to ensure job opportunities to
Jordanians, the minister said.
Stetieh said that the
program will provide JD130 as subsidy to participants’ monthly wages and JD10 for
transportation, as well as JD10 for social security contributions for a period
of six months, provided that a 12-month work contract is signed between the
employer and the worker.
The program aims to
empower Jordanian youth and facilitate their access to “decent job
opportunities” in the private sector.
Tackling the challenge of
unemployment is a national responsibility, the labor minister said, especially
in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said that ensuring
harmony between all employment programs and projects is key, and that training
should happen in partnership between the public and private sectors.
The program was designed
with the input of the private sector, based on available data through the
program’s steering committee, the minister said.
