Chairing the committee’s meeting, Talal
Al-Nassour stated that updating and developing Jordan's energy sector and
making it a regional hub for energy exchange in all its forms is an important
strategic goal for the government, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
Nassour, in the presence of Minister of Energy
and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and several concerned parties,
emphasized that this helps provide the necessary energy for economic growth,
improve citizens' quality of life, and contribute to environmental protection
and carbon emissions reduction.
He explained that this requires updating the
systems and laws related to this sector, as this step has become urgent due to
the rising energy bill in the Kingdom, stressing the need to develop the energy
sector's infrastructure, update the electrical infrastructure, enhance the use
of renewable energy, and increase investments in this sector.
For his part, Kharabsheh stated that Jordan is
among the leading countries in promoting the use of renewable energy through
issuing legislation and regulations for its utilization, indicating that the
utilization rate has reached 27 percent.
He
pointed out a significant development in the regulations governing renewable
energy, affirming that amendments to the draft law ‘will not apply to previous
meters, but only to new ones.’
Kharabsheh reiterated that the ministry does
not withdraw the authority of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission
(EMRC) but works to strengthen its work.
