The committee aimed to explore viable options for the
electrical grid and foster a more sustainable energy landscape, according to
Jo24.
Streamlining operations
During the discussion, Talal Al-Nasour, the head of the
committee, highlighted the numerous benefits of smart electric meters.
Nasour emphasized that these meters streamline operations,
saving significant time and effort. Their key features include the ability to
provide accurate results, eliminate errors in reading schedules, and
minimize human errors through remote reading. Moreover, smart meters empower consumers
to monitor their
electricity consumption almost instantly and determine the
precise amount used.
Progress and the first ‘smart city’
Ziyad Saaida, the chairman of the Board of Commissioners of
the
Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, disclosed that Jordan has made
considerable progress in implementing smart electric meters. Currently, the
nation has installed 600,000 smart meters across all provinces, constituting 25
percent of the total service meters.
Looking ahead, Saaida announced ambitious plans for the
complete transition to smart meters by the end of 2025. Additionally, he
revealed that Jordan is set to declare its first smart city by the conclusion
of this year, signaling the country's commitment to embracing advanced
technologies.
Addressing concerns about job security, Saaida assured the
committee that the adoption of smart meters would not lead to the termination
of workers' services. Instead, these employees would be reassigned to other
future tasks, ensuring their continued engagement within the evolving energy
sector.
