The Iraqi
Ministry of Electricity previously announced in
May that the connection with Jordan would be operational in early July,
starting with a capacity of 50 megawatts in the first stage, Khaberni reported.
Ahmed Musa, the ministry's spokesman, stated, "The
connection with Jordan will be ready on July 1 as the first stage, with a
capacity of 50 megawatts up to Al-Rutba district in
Al-Anbar Governorate to
supply the national grid."
The foundation for the project was laid by both sides in
October 2022. The first phase of the project aims to provide the Iraqi side
with 150 megawatts of electricity from Jordan, with plans to increase it to 500
megawatts in the second phase, and 900 megawatts in the third phase.
In addition,
drilling operations in the Al-Rishah area for
the phosphate exploration project are expected to commence soon, according to
Kharabsheh.
