AMMAN — Zaal Al-Kawalit, president of the
Livestock Breeders Association, revealed that this year's supply of sacrificial animals for
Eid Al-Adha exceeds the needs of the local market.

According to a report in Ad-Dustour daily, Kawalit
emphasized that the surplus of exports will not have a negative impact on the
livestock market. He explained that the previous
suspension of exports,
attributed to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, resulted in an
accumulation of over 300,000 heads.
In addition, Kawalit pointed out that the demand for
domestically exported sheep in foreign markets is higher than in the Jordanian
market.
The number of domestically exported sheep has reached
110,000 heads, while the demand in the Jordanian market is expected to be
around 60,000 heads. This indicates that the surplus of
sacrificial animals will not be a concern for the local market.
Furthermore, Kawalit highlighted that the price per kilogram
of domestically bred
sacrificial animals is significantly lower than the
previous year. Currently, the price ranges between 4.25 and 4.5 Jordanian
dinars, presenting a considerable decrease.
Given the circumstances, Kawalit urged citizens to consider
purchasing sacrificial animals based on weight rather than acquiring the entire
animal.
He stressed the importance of the weight falling within the
range of 40kg and 50kg to ensure fair and appropriate purchases for the
occasion of
Eid Al-Adha.
