Fayez said that Jordan’s tourism income for first
third of this year was JD860 million, with an additional JD320 million
projected in May alone.
The increase is due to the number of tourists
jumping by 310 percent to 1.488 million in the first five months of this year,
compared with the same period in 2021, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.
The number of overnight tourists increased by 295
percent between January and May this year. The number of tourists from
Gulf Arab states also soared 1,258 percent during that period over the corresponding
months in 2021.
The figures revealed a significant growth in the
number of tourists during the month of May, by 345 percent to reach 429,000
tourists, compared with the numbers of the same period last year.
If the figures continue the upward trend at the same pace,
tourism income will exceed JD2.9 billion in 2022, according to Fayez.
