According to the program's report, prepared in Jerusalem, official reports from international human rights organizations confirm that last year was the "worst" in terms of mistreatment by Israeli authorities against Palestinian detainees and prisoners, resulting in the death of several.
Official figures also indicate that last year saw a record number of Palestinian arrests in Jerusalem and across the occupied Palestinian territories.
The report highlighted that since the start of the war on Gaza, Palestinian detainees have faced an "unseen war" inside Israeli prisons, including deprivation of food and medical treatment for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.
Poor hygiene conditions imposed by Israeli authorities have led to the spread of diseases, with prisoners being denied access to personal cleanliness or showers.
Nasser Qous, Director of the Palestinian Prisoners' Club in Jerusalem, stated that families of Palestinian detainees are awaiting a potential prisoner exchange deal between the Israeli government and Hamas.
However, they are deeply concerned about delays by the current Israeli government, which aims to prolong the situation to continue its "genocide" and pressure on the Palestinian people.
He noted that while a prior deal led to the release of some women and children, many were re-arrested shortly afterward.
Qous added that Israeli prison authorities have received lists of prisoners to be released and have begun relocating them in preparation.
The initial phase of the exchange involves releasing 35 Israeli prisoners in Gaza in return for 1,500-3,000 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails, including approximately 200 serving life sentences.
The number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody was 5,300 before the war and has now reached 10,300, according to records from the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Commission and the Prisoners’ Club. Many prisoners remain unaccounted for, particularly in Gaza, along with cases of enforced disappearances.
Since the war on Gaza began, 55 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli jails, raising the total number of Palestinian prisoner deaths since 1967 to 292. Additionally, numerous Palestinians have been executed in the field, with their bodies withheld by Israeli authorities.
Qous noted that over 1,330 administrative detainees are currently held in Israeli prisons, including 22 women, with many detained for extended periods, sometimes up to 35 months. These detainees include journalists and media workers.
He emphasized that the escalating arrests are part of Israel’s Judaization plan for Jerusalem, leveraging the war on Gaza to accelerate the displacement of Jerusalem’s residents.
This is coupled with measures such as land confiscation, economic restrictions on Palestinians, increased settler incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, and expanded settlement activities. Israel is also obstructing the work of the Jerusalem Waqf Directorate.
Qous underscored the significance of the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem and its holy sites, represented by King Abdullah II, who continues to defend Jerusalem and the Palestinian cause in international forums.
