AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi on Tuesday welcomed
UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen to discuss a Jordanian initiative to
solve the Syrian crisis through direct Arab-Syrian government political
dialogue.

During the meeting,
Safadi reaffirmed full coordination with the UN on all details of the initiative. He briefed Pedersen
on the Kingdom's aid to
survivors of earthquakes that struck Syria and Turkey
last month, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Coordination with Arab countries is ongoing
to set a date to launch the initiative, Safadi said, stressing that Arab
countries are entitled to lead the dialogue to solve the Syrian crisis, which
is impacting the
MENA region more than any other region.
Finding a political solutionThe Foreign Minister reiterated Jordan's
support for Pedersen's efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis in
accordance with
UN Security Council Resolution No 2254.
Pedersen spoke about his work to solve the
crisis through political means, stressing the importance of cooperation between
Jordan and the UN to this end.
He also commended the Kingdom for its
humanitarian role in providing aid to
Syrian earthquake survivors and Syrian
refugees in Jordan.
