AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Al-Safadi stressed the importance of moving "effectively" to mobilize the necessary political and financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Speaking at his meeting on Thursday with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, Safadi discussed the future steps needed to provide support to UNRWA and enable it to continue providing its vital services to Palestinian refugees in accordance to its UN mandate.
This process should be within the framework of joint action and coordination with the agency and international and regional partners, Safadi pointed out.
Safadi reiterated rejection of any change to the agency's mandate and powers or any reassignment of its services provided to Palestinian refugees.
In this regard, he affirmed providing these services is UNRWA's exclusive authority and duty under its UN mandate and that its powers and responsibilities "are not delegable."
The two sides reviewed the agency's plans and the pressing challenges facing it and agreed to maintain coordination and consultation with partners, especially in light of the approaching date to kick off the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 77) next September.
