AMMAN —
Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi spoke with his Russian
counterpart,
Sergey Lavrov, on Wednesday, about the outcomes of a consultative
meeting on the Syrian crisis held in Amman on Tuesday.

The meeting brought together
foreign ministers from Saudi
Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, and Syria to tackle the humanitarian, security, and
political implications of the crisis.
Arab Initiative to address Syrian CrisisDuring their conversation Safadi highlighted the
significance of the
Arab initiative, proposed during the meeting, to address
the Syrian crisis in a step-by-step methodology that aligns with
UN Security Council Resolution 2254, as well as other Arab endeavors, reported the Jordan
News Agency, Petra.
Safadi stressed that any political solution must
preserve Syria's sovereignty while meeting the aspirations of its people, ending
terrorism, militias and armed groups, and leading to the voluntary and safe
return of refugees.
Call for open border crossingsSafadi also emphasized the importance of open border
crossings for the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need in Syria, in
accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
In a joint statement issued after the meeting, Safadi called
for practical and effective steps to
combat cross-border drug smuggling, which
is a priority. He also stressed the need for cooperation with Russia, which has
a significant role in resolving the crisis and addressing its consequences on
Syria and the region.
Lavrov welcomed the Amman consultative meeting and its
outcomes, indicating Russia's support for the Arab initiative to reach a
political solution to end the Syrian crisis and address all its consequences.
