In a series of
tweets, the foreign minister said: “We welcome statement by France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Britain urging Israel to stop settlement building in occupied West Bank. Settlements building and expansion, confiscation of lands, demolition of houses, evicting Palestinians from their homes are all illegal measures that consolidate occupation and undermine prospects for the just, lasting, comprehensive peace that’s a regional and global necessity.”
Safadi added: “We urge effective, swift international action to prevent the crime of evicting Palestinians from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah. Israeli illegal and provocative measures in occupied Jerusalem, including the inhumane threat of eviction of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah from their homes, are pushing tension to dangerous limits. Jerusalem is a red line. This is playing with fire.”
France, Germany and Britain, Spain and Italy on Thursday urged Israel to put an end to the expansion of settlements on occupied Palestinian territories and to cease all evictions in East Jerusalem.
The European nations also called on Israel to back down from plans to build 540 new residential units in the Har Homa settlement.
