New York - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Friday held a series of bilateral meetings during the UN General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Week.

Safadi held talks with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and the dangerous escalation in the West Bank, ensure sustainable aid to all parts of the Strip and protect civilians.
The talks also tackled the issue of Syrian refugees and the danger of dwindling international support to them and organizations caring for them and host countries, in addition to bilateral relations.
Separately, Safadi and Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly discussed ways to further enhance the deep and historical relations between Jordan and Canada in various fields.
The two ministers also discussed the dangerous developments in the Middle East, efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, and the dangerous Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank, in addition to the need to continue funding UNRWA, the UN agency that provides indispensable humanitarian aid in Gaza.
Safadi also met Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita as part of joint Arab coordination on developments in the Gaza Strip and the region. The two ministers stressed the need for an effective international effort to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank, protection of civilians and ensuring the delivery of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the Strip.
Safadi also met newly-appointed Syrian Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh to discuss efforts to reach a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis that preserves the country's security, unity and sovereignty.
The ministers also discussed a number of bilateral issues, including border security and combating drug smuggling, and the importance of continuing consultation and coordination to end the Syrian crisis and enhance cooperation.
Safadi also discussed with Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren the need to intensify efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, and the dangerous escalation in the West Bank, as the only way to achieve the two-state solution.
Safadi and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mirjana Spoljaric also discussed efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and ensure the protection of civilians and relief facilities that provide vital aid to palestinians.
Safadi and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong called for launching an effective international effort to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, and the dangerous escalation in the West Bank, as a first step to avoid the expansion of the conflict in the region.
Safadi also met with Dutch Foreign Minister Casper Veldkamp on the need to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and the dangerous escalation in the West Bank and the region.
They stresed adherence to international law and international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilians, and the non-stop flow of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Safadi and head of the Democratic Caucus at the House Foreign Affairs Committee Gregory Meeks also tackled the dangerous regional developments, efforts made to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and Lebanon and the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank, warning against expansion of the conflict on regional security and stability if Israel continues its aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, and the escalation in the West Bank.
Safadi also held a similar meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Hill and called on the UN Security Council to stop the israeli aggression on Gaza and Lebanon and ongoing Israeli violations of international law.
Safadi and US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield discussed efforts exerted to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank, the protection of civilians, and ensuring the delivery of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the Strip.
The minister stressed the need for the Security Council to assume its legal and moral responsibility to counter Israeli violations of international law and its threat to regional security and stability.
Safadi also participated in an open session of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian issue, which was held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN Security Council.
