FM meets Qatari prime minister, foreign minister in Doha

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi met Friday in Doha with Qatar Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.اضافة اعلان

The meeting covered bilateral ties and regional and international issues of common interest.

Safadi congratulated Sheikh Mohammad on appointing him as prime minister, in addition to his position as minister of foreign affairs, wishing him success under the leadership of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the emir of Qatar.

He expressed keenness to continue working together to enhance the strategic relations between the two countries and develop them in various fields, in implementation of directives of His Majesty King Abdullah and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Growing cooperationBoth officials highlighted the growing development in cooperation between Jordan and Qatar in various economic and investment fields.

They discussed various cooperation programs in economic, investment, and trade fields, and measures taken by the two countries to increase cooperation, in implementation of the outcomes of the summit that brought together King Abdullah and Sheikh Tamim in Doha at the beginning of this year.

Safadi also thanked Sheikh Mohammad for the care provided to Jordanian citizens residing in Qatar, whose numbers have increased to about 70,000 since Sheikh Tamim's initiative to provide 10,000 jobs for Jordanians in 2018 and another 10,000 in 2020.

Sheikh Mohammad reaffirmed his country's keenness to develop relations with Jordan in many fields, especially in investment.

Palestinian causeSafadi and Sheikh Mohammad also discussed the Palestinian cause, and Sheikh Mohammad reaffirmed that fulfilling all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to freedom and an independent and sovereign state on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of the two-state solution, is the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

Safadi briefed Sheikh Mohammad on Jordan's efforts in coordination with partners to stop the illegal Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution and fuel violence, including the Aqaba meeting.

Sheikh Mohammad and Safadi agreed to continue coordination and consultation on these efforts.

The meeting also dealt with efforts exerted to solve the Syrian crisis, as Sheikh Mohammad and Safadi discussed the Jordanian initiative based on direct Arab engagement with the Syrian government to gradually move towards resolving the crisis according to the step-by-step methodology.
