During the meeting, Safadi stressed the need to work systematically and effectively for a political solution to the Syrian crisis, and to stop the suffering and destruction it causes, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
He said that Jordan will continue to work with the UN and regional and international partners to reach a political solution to the crisis that preserves Syria’s unity and cohesion, restores its security and stability, rids it of terrorism, and creates the conditions necessary for the voluntary return of refugees.
Safadi added that the catastrophic repercussions of the crisis on Syria, its brotherly people and the region, make activating efforts to reach a political solution, and adopting practical and realistic approaches to achieve this a fundamental priority.
Safadi also warned of the consequences of the decline in international support for refugees and host countries, noting that providing refugees with a decent life is a joint responsibility of host countries and the international community.
The minister told the UN envoy that Jordan supports his efforts to resolve the crisis, stressing the centrality of the UN role in this context.
Pedersen briefed Safadi on efforts he is leading to make progress in resolving the crisis, and the outcomes of the last Constitutional committee’s meeting.
Pedersen commended the continuous cooperation between the Kingdom and the UN in efforts to resolve the
Syrian crisis, and thanked Jordan for its great humanitarian role towards Syrian refugees.
