The meeting in Rome discussed means to enhance relations between
the two countries in various fields and reviewed regional developments and
efforts to resolve crises in the Middle East.
Safadi and Fassino highlighted the strategic ties between the
Kingdom and Italy and the importance of boosting institutional cooperation that
serves the two countries' interests. This cooperation, they said, would have a
positive impact on efforts to achieve security, stability, and prosperity.
Safadi reviewed Jordan's efforts to resolve regional crises,
achieve security and stability, and reach a just and comprehensive peace.
However, he said the only way to achieve these goals is to legitimize the
rights of the Palestinian people, namely their right to freedom and
independence as a sovereign state with
Jerusalem as its capital based on the
borders set on June 4, 1967.
Safadi added that if these rights are legitimized,
Palestine can
live in peace and security alongside Israel.
Fassino underlined commitment to enhancing cooperation between
the parliaments of both countries.
On Monday evening, Safadi delivered a keynote speech at the
sixth annual meeting of the
European Council on Foreign Relations, the Middle
East, and North Africa (MENA) program.
