He made the remarks during a telephone conversation with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland.

Safadi said that Israel bears responsibility for the escalation stressing that stability and peace cannot be achieved without the end of the occupation, a ministry statement said.

During his talks with the UN envoy, Safadi stressed the need to urgently launch an effective drive to end the Israel occupation and meet all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people as the only way to achieve peace.

The foreign minister also stressed that preventing the crime of uprooting the people of Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood from their homes is a responsibility that must be borne by the international community, stressing that Israel, as the occupying power, is obligated according to international law to respect the rights of Palestinians in their homes.

Safadi also warned of the “catastrophic repercussions” of the continued Israeli violations and attacks in the sacred Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, stressing the need to respect the historical and legal status quo in the compound.

Safadi will participate tomorrow in the emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the level of foreign ministers, to discuss the Israeli attacks and violations against Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories, the statement announced.
