Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi, said that Jordan can't take any more refugees.

Safadi's statements came after King Abdullah II met with US President Donald Trump at the White House, where the US president again suggested that Palestinians in Gaza be displaced to neighbouring countries.اضافة اعلان

"We cannot take any more refugees. We are the largest refugee host in the region," Safadi told CNN’s Erin Burnett, adding that "Thirty-five percent of our population is refugees."

Jordan hosts more than 700,000 refugees from neighbouring countries and about 2.4 million registered Palestinian refugees, according to the United Nations.

More than half of Jordan's population is of Palestinian origin, indicating that a demographic change would occur in the country if there was another influx of Palestinians.

"For us in Jordan, it is a matter of stability and security, and therefore our position is that we must solve the Palestinian issue in Palestine on Palestinian land," Safadi said.
