According to a ministry press release issued on Thursday, Safadi will sign a new memorandum of understanding on the strategic partnership between the two governments during the visit, which will outline the United States' assistance for the Kingdom over the next seven years.
During a July meeting between His Majesty King Abdullah II and
US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the Jeddah Summit, Biden stated that his administration intends to sign a new memorandum of understanding with Jordan under which the US will provide annual aid of at least $1.45 billion between 2023 and 2029.
At the time, President Biden reaffirmed the US's unwavering support for Jordan as a key ally and a force for peace in the region.
The deal highlights the US commitment to supporting Jordan's stability and the long, strong partnership between the two nations. The assistance provided under the memorandum will help to support the economy and development process, as well as the Kingdom's economic reform program, according to the statement.
This agreement is the largest in terms of financial aid and also the longest. It will replace the current MoU, which expires this month.
In 2008, the first MoU on strategic partnership with the US was signed; a second one was inked in 2015, while the third and last was signed in 2018.
During his visit to Washington, DC, Safadi will also discuss with US officials means to boost relations between Jordan and the US as well as a number of Middle East issues, particuarly the Palestinian cause. He will partake in a session hosted by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
