Maher Abu Hatab, Leen’s father, said: “My daughter was
suffering from severe pain in her stomach, and on the second of September, we
took her to Al-Bashir Hospital, and the initial diagnosis was that she had a
urinary tract infection. Afterward, she returned home, but she was still in
pain.”
“We went to the hospital again, and the diagnosis was that
she suffers from inflammation in the intestine, and with the pain being
persistent, we went to a private hospital and diagnosed her condition, so they
told us to go to the nearest hospital as she was suffering from appendicitis,”
he added.
The father said that they went back to
Al-Bashir Hospital again and that it took four hours for them to diagnose her condition. “They
took her to the operating room, but the appendix had already burst, and in the
next day, the child's stomach was bloated, and she had severe pain,” said the
father.
According to Leen’s father, when the doctors were called
after noticing the bloating, a state of tension occurred in the child’s midsection.
As a result, they proceeded to perform another operation on her. By the end of
the operation, Leen was pronounced dead.
The father added: “My daughter died in pain,” he noted that
Leen did not stop crying and screaming from her stomach pain.
Leen's mother gave birth to her fifth child six days before
her daughter's death. Currently, the father shared that the mother is engulfed
with grief and cannot talk to anyone.
Leen's father blamed the surgeon for neglecting to save her
life, stressing that he had not met the surgeon who performed the operation.
The Director-General of the National Center of Forensic
Medicine, Dr. Hassan Al-Hawari, told
Jordan News: “After the autopsy, it was
found that the cause of death was bacteremia, which happened following the
appendectomy operation, and that there are specialized committees that will
determine whether a medical error has occurred or not.”
