Friday’s event at the residence of the Mexican Ambassador Roberto Rodriguez Hernandez was attended by several political, economic, diplomatic, and media figures.

Speaking at the ceremony, association President Barakat Awajan stressed its role in strengthening Jordanian-Mexican relations.

Mexico, he said, is a large emerging economy, ranking first in the Americas and fifth globally in terms of heritage sites.

A symposium will be held on bilateral relations and future plans to establish a Jordanian-Mexican business council to enhance joint cooperation, he added.

For his part, Hernandez said that this important initiative will be a “strong driver” to strengthen relations and disseminate Mexican culture, which is exemplary in terms of tolerance and stability.

Jordanian-Mexican relations are witnessing clear development, as seen in the two nations’ unified positions and visions concerning many issues and their agreements and memoranda of understanding in the areas of culture, economy, society, tourism, and education, the envoy noted.

Other agreements on customs, air operation services, civil aviation, and justice are in their final stages, he said.

The Jordan-Mexico Friendship Association was established to strengthen and support these relations, to form a bridge for communication and cooperation between the two countries’ peoples, and to highlight their cultures, Hernandez explained.

The association will also play a role in developing and promoting joint projects, business opportunities, trade, and investment between the two countries and coordinating the launch of exhibitions and economic seminars, the envoy noted.

Recently, he said, the Jordan Businessmen Association and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce have signed memoranda of understanding with their Mexican counterparts. In addition, cultural, academic, and scientific exchanges will be supported by promoting bilateral agreements to exchange scholarships for teaching and scientific research bodies.

Coordination and cooperation between public and private Jordanian and Mexican universities is underway to support joint tourism and heritage promotion, Hernandez said.
