AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez said the
Palestinian issue will remain Jordan’s top priority and no party could ignore
the Palestinian people’s right to establish their independent state on their
national soil, or compromise Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian sanctities,
according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Speaking at a
meeting with a number of families of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in
Israeli prisons on Wednesday, Fayez said that any solution to the Palestinian
issue, which fails to restore the Palestinian people’s full and legitimate
rights, is “infeasible, nihilistic and rejected”.
Lauding and
voicing support for the Palestinian people’s steadfastness and their struggle
for liberation, Fayez noted that thousands of Palestinian detainees and
prisoners in Israel’s prisons suffer the worst forms of torture.
Citing Jordan’s
role in defending Palestine and its sanctities, he said: “The Palestinian cause
has continued to be at the forefront of Jordan’s priorities,” referring to the
Kingdom’s duties to defend Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Fayez also
highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah’s continued efforts to end the plight of
the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation, and their right to establish
an independent state. He said that remains a top priority for the King at
various international forums.
He said the
monarch’s efforts aim to achieve a just and comprehensive solution to the
Palestinian cause and establish a sovereign state on Palestinian national soil,
with Al-Quds Al-Sharif, Arabic for Jerusalem, as its capital.
Fayez called on
global human rights organizations to counter Israeli practices, which
exacerbate Palestinian prisoners’ suffering, violate the most basic human
rights rules and support Palestinians to restore their legitimate rights.
