AMMAN — Experts attribute the
significant decrease in the number of people receiving unemployment benefit
during January, compared to January 2021, to the return of most sectors to
work, according to Al-Ghad News.

The Social Security Corporation (SSC) announced last Wednesday
that the number of people who subscribe to the SSC and received unemployment
allowance in January 2022 amounted to 8,471, for a total amount of JD2,45
million, compared to 30,214 beneficiaries in the same period in 2021, when the
amount disbursed was JD8.6 million, a decrease of 72 percent.
The SSC report stated that 103,000 subscribers benefited from
unemployment benefit during 2021, for a total amount of JD94.5 million, while
149,000 benefited in 2020, for a total amount of JD61.4 million, a decrease of
31 percent.
The report stated that the decrease in the number of individuals
receiving unemployment benefits is attributed to the fact that establishments
benefited from the corporation’s programs emanating from defense orders, which
led to keeping workers in the labor market and enabled establishments to
continue to work.
Social insurance expert Mohammad Al-Zoubi said that the disbursement
of the unemployment benefit starts a month after a subscriber applies for it
and does not cover the month in which his/her services were terminated.
Beneficiaries are paid a temporary salary up to three months as
follows: 75 percent of the salary in the first month, 65 percent in the second
month, and 55 percent in the third month.
The
unemployment benefit is considered a savings and investment
account for the subscriber, as all savings in this fund are returned to the
subscriber with their investment return in the event that they are not used to
pay unemployment benefit during the coverage, when settling insurance rights.
The law also permits withdrawal from that balance for the purposes of educating
children or getting medical treatment.
