Qabilat told Al Mamlaka that international schools that adopt a
three-semester structure may be excluded from the decision if it turns out that
it affects the progress of education.
"No units will be deleted from the school curricula,
but they will be moved to the second semester, whose start and end dates have
been extended," Qabilat said, adding that high school exams will not be affected
as they are held at a specific period.
Qabilat said that Article 40 of the Education Law stipulates
that the number of school days is a minimum of 195 to 200 days, and therefore
the days removed from the first semester are added to the second semester, and
therefore the number of school days for the first and second semesters comes to
195.
The Planning Committee of the Ministry of Education decided
to advance the date for the final exams for the first semester to begin on
December 8. It also decided to bring forward the start date of the second
semester to February 1, 2022.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry for Educational
Affairs, Nawaf Al-Ajarma, indicated in a press statement that this decision comes
in line with the ministry’s concern over the safety and health of students
regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
