This rise in domestic revenue for 2021 is due to an increase in tax revenue of JD668.3 million, as well as the non-tax revenue of about JD418.5 million, according to the ministry.
In a statement, the ministry clarified that it had managed, despite the repercussions of the pandemic, through the financial management taken by the government and structural, legislative, and administrative treatment in the fight against tax and customs evasion and avoidance, to achieve the local revenue target estimates in the 2021 general budget act.
Public expenditure during 2021 rose by JD647.4 million to JD9858.8 million, or 7 percent, compared to 2020, where the increase was mainly the result of an increase in capital expenditures of JD315.4 million compared to 2020.
The ministry added that the proportion of expenditure was in line with what was estimated in the general budget act, taking into account the government's commitment to cover financial allocations resulting from the increase in public sector employees' salaries and support for economic sectors affected by the pandemic, in addition to the expansion of the social safety net through increased allocations of the National Aid Fund to increase the number of families benefiting from the Fund's programs, and the extension of “istidamah” employment retention program in the private sector.
The ministry of finance reduced the budget deficit by JD451.9 million compared to 2020 with JD239.7 million, and compared to the deficit estimated in the general budget act without increasing any additional financial burden on citizens.
