Suhool Sahab restaurant in the Sahab district in
southeast Amman, received significant public attention in August in response to
a story posted on Facebook by Ruba Sami, the daughter of the restaurant worker.
Her story led to people flocking into the eatery, salvaging a business that was
on the verge of collapsing.
But restaurant owner Mohammad Al-Hourani revealed on
Saturday that the restaurant was closing its doors due to a dispute with Ruba’s
father, Sami Abdullah. He said that the case was brought before the Jordanian
judiciary following unspecified claims by Sami on certain financial matters. He
did not elaborate.
Sami had first decided to post on social media after
her father called her when the restaurant first opened “with a sad tone in his
voice, saying he has not sold anything for three days because the restaurant is
new and people prefer places which are more known,” she had said at the time.
Despite being disheartened, she had reassured her
father, and shared his story on social media. Her friends started sharing the
post in groups, and it ended up reaching Jordanian influencers “who offered to
help me and my father.”
Then, customers thronged to the restaurant, which quickly
became an overnight success. Just two months later, however, the restaurant
closed down.
