AMMAN — For the first time, a Jordanian
film has been chosen to compete in the upcoming 76th edition of the prestigious
Cannes Film Festival, which will be held in May.

The
Royal Film Commission in Jordan made
the announcement, stating that the feature film by Jordanian director Amjad Al-Rasheed,
titled “Inshallah a boy”, was selected to compete in the festival’s Critics'
Week.
StorylineThe film follows the story of Nawal, who
must fight to save her daughter and home after the death of her husband in
Jordan, where having a son is the difference between prestige and
discrimination in the country's conservative communities.
“Inshallah a boy” received a production and
post-production grant from the film commission's Jordan Film Support Fund,
according to Addustour daily.
