They warned that the death toll is expected to rise.

According to the U.S. channel Al-Hurra, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna stated today, Thursday, "Earlier, two fatalities were reported, but unfortunately, the number has risen to five as we continue our investigation in this area."

The fires have destroyed hundreds of buildings, prompting officials to issue evacuation orders for about 70,000 residents.

Strong winds have fueled the fires, which have swept over 2,900 hectares of land and forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes.

Meteorologists warned that the winds could persist for several days, causing trees to fall and severe fires to erupt in areas that have not experienced significant rainfall for months.

U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed that he is in contact with officials to provide any required assistance to extinguish the fires.
