those recorded during the three days preceding Ramadan, according to traders.

According to
experts, the decline in commercial activity in purchasing food items is due to
a range of reasons, including Jordanians buying large quantities of goods
exceeding their daily needs as preparations for Ramadan, Al-Ghad reported.
Moreover,
experts point out that many people in the Kingdom have changed their
consumption patterns due to Israel’s war on Gaza, especially as Israel has
starved civilians.
They
confirmed the abundance of goods in the local market in quantities exceeding
citizens' needs, in addition to their diversity and the availability of options
and alternatives for individual goods, along with extensive discounted offers
presented by stores and commercial centers, noting that the prices of fresh
chilled meats have increased by over 20 percent due to rising shipping costs.
On the other
hand, Jamal Amro, the representative of food items in the Jordanian Chamber of
Commerce, described the commercial activity in food markets as moderate and
below the rates recorded during the days preceding the holy month.
Amro
estimated a 15 percent decline in commercial activity in food markets compared
to the past three days, attributing this to citizens buying large quantities of
food items exceeding their daily needs in preparation for the holy month.
He expected
commercial activity to continue its decline until the end of the coming week,
then resume its activity again, coinciding with the disbursement of salaries
for workers, pointing to strong competition between stores and commercial
centers evidenced by continued extensive discounted offers, including essential
and diverse food items.
Amro
confirmed the availability of all goods in the local market in quantities
exceeding citizens' needs and at stable price levels for some products and
reduced for others, except for imported meats, which have witnessed price
increases due to rising shipping costs resulting from events in the Red Sea
region caused by the brutal Israeli aggression against the people of Gaza.
Yaser
Al-Abadi, an investor in one of the commercial centers, said that commercial
activity has noticeably decreased among citizens in purchasing food and Ramadan
items compared to the days preceding the blessed month of Ramadan.
Abadi
explained that markets have seen better commercial activity during the past
three days than the days preceding the holy month last year.
He confirmed
strong competition between commercial centers through extensive discounts
announced, encompassing essential and high-quality food items, noting the
availability and diversity of products in the market at stable prices for most
products and reduced for others compared to last year's Ramadan.
The Ministry
of Industry, Trade, and Supply began implementing the first phase of the strict
monitoring plan on markets on the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan,
extending until the first half of the holy month.
