In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency,
Petra, the ministry demanded that the settlers immediately evacuate the Petra
Hotel.
Ministry spokesman Haitham Abu Alfoul said that
Jordan categorically rejects all moves aimed at changing the historical and
legal status quo in East Jerusalem, including Muslim and Christian properties
and endowments, and affirmed the Kingdom’s support to Jerusalemites and the
Orthodox Church against the settlers’ attacks.
The spokesman held the Israeli government
responsible for the settlers’ continued attacks. He stressed that Jordan, based
on the historical Hashemite Custodianship of Muslim and Christian holy sites in
Jerusalem, will continue to take all possible steps that enforce the
steadfastness of the Palestinians, protect holy sites, and preserve the
historical character of Jerusalem and its holy places as a key to peace and a
symbol of tolerance and harmony.
