AMMAN — The Habibi Valtiberina Association, in collaboration with
USAID and local artisans, recently unveiled its new brand of artisanal cheeses,
FormaJO. Produced in the quaint town of Ader, near Karak, are the result of the
dedication of eight Jordanian women. Since 2018, these women have been crafting
Italian-style cheese from locally sourced sheep's milk. The cheese produced in
Ader has found its way to Mar Youssef's Pizzeria, another enterprise under the
Habibi Association's umbrella.

The FormaJO cheese-making journey has
received substantial backing from the USAID Informal Livelihoods Advancement
Activity, known as Iqlaa. This initiative seeks to address the challenges faced
by home-based businesses and micro-enterprises in Jordan, including limited
market access, insufficient business development services, and a complex
regulatory environment.
The cheese-making project has received
continuous support from USAID since 2019. The partnership has enabled the
Habibi Association to establish a larger cheese production and training center
in Ader, alongside a visitor reception, tasting, and sales area. USAID has also
contributed to the development of the FormaJO brand, enhancing the supply of
raw materials, building the capacity and expertise of local women, devising
business and marketing plans, and exploring new market opportunities.
Presently, FormaJO employs eight women
cheesemakers and two shepherds who passionately contribute to the cheese-making
enterprise.
