AMMAN — Former director of the Public Security Directorate
and Jordanian, Maj. Gen. Fadel Mohammad Al-Hmoud, criticized the state of the
rule of law in Jordan, describing it as "seasonal" or
"partial".

The comments were made during his participation in the
"Rule of Law" session in the Communication Forum launched by the
Crown Prince Foundation last Saturday.
During the session, Hmoud noted that Jordanians only seem to
rise to demand the rule of law when an accident or crisis occurs, and as a
result, the rule of law is only enforced on a “seasonal” basis.
This lack of consistent commitment to the rule of law,
according to Hmoud, is a major issue in Jordanian society.
Officials’ commitment to law is crucialHmoud also emphasized that what is more important than the citizen's
commitment to the law is the commitment of officials to the law.
This is because officials, wherever they are, act as models
for the citizen, and it is their responsibility to uphold the rule of law.
