AMMAN — Al-Nahda Forum called on the
government to discuss establishing a national joint stock company to
manufacture, operate, and manage light rail transit and railway networks to
meet the transit needs of Jordanian cities, according to Khaberni.
The forum on Monday suggested installing transit
networks in cities characterized by a flat topography and linking neighboring
cities to each other via rail networks to facilitate transportation and
minimize pollution, noise, and accidents, which have become daily occurrences
in the Kingdom.
National entities have the joint experience and
knowledge needed in the manufacturing and engineering field for this project,
the forum said, noting that these bodies can develop their efforts and mobilize
national funding to establish a national company for this purpose. The forum
also proposed that the government import ready-made technology for train
manufacturing and operation from countries such as Germany, France, and Turkey.
Jordan has an “urgent need” for such a company, especially
in light of the transition to smart and safe cities that protect pedestrians
and travelers, enhance modern transportation, and boost green industries.
