AMMAN — The head of the National Center
for Human Rights (NCHR) board of trustees, Rahil Gharaibeh, has referred four
center employees to the public prosecutor on Thursday, Al-Ghad News reported.
The four now join two female employees and the
former commissioner-general, Alaa Al-Armouti, who were also referred to the
public prosecutor more than two months ago; they were all suspended.
The referral of the four employees, all of them
heads of units and departments at the center, was based on claims of “violating
the Cyber-crime Law by intentionally publishing or republishing posts that
include defamation and slander”, Al-Ghad said.
The employees participated, together with other
center staff, in sit-ins, more than 40 days ago, to protest a decision by
Gharaibeh to promote a number employees, in addition to objecting to what they
called “arbitrary policies” adopted by him with the workers at the center.
Gharaibeh submitted his resignation weeks ago, but
it has not been accepted yet. The four employees are expected to appear before
the public prosecutor today.
Meanwhile, Jo24 reported that Gharaibeh continues to
carry out his duties at the center even though he had submitted his resignation
on September 22.
Last month, a Royal Decree was issued approving the
amendments to the NCHR law.
