AMMAN — The
Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) launched its strategic plan for the years 2022–2026 with the aim of
raising and improving the quality and standards of living for citizens through
entertainment, culture, and sports, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

The strategy includes implementing 212 projects and
initiatives to achieve 15 strategic aims and 30 strategic goals with a total
value of JD918 million between 2022 and 2026.
It includes establishing new parks and gardens,
rehabilitating and developing already existing parks at a value of JD44
million, expanding the Amman Bus routes to include 286 buses.
The strategy also includes the first and second phases
of the
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, which includes traffic improvements for
intersections, traffic solutions, and a biomechanical waste treatment project
that will recycle waste and produce energy and fertilizer.
It estimated the cost of financing the second phase
of the BRT project at JD281 million for the years 2022 to 2026.
In its document, GAM said that the first and second
phases of the BRT project include implementing designs for vital intersections
that were studied in phase two as well as other intersection improvements.
The World Bank said that it is working with GAM to
finance and implement the second phase of the BRT project in Amman, according
to the practice manager for the MENA Transport Unit, Ibrahim Al-Dajani.
Dajani added that “the bank is proud to participate
in many projects in Jordan, the most important of which is the BRT project with
the Ministry of Transport and the GAM,” explaining that “the length of the
second phase is up to 50km.”
