AMMAN — Vice-president of the Syndicate of Owners of Taxi Offices, Internal and External Travel, and Driving Training Centers, Mohammad Al-Hadid said that the announced subsidy for public transportation has not been disbursed to public transportation vehicles operating in Amman, according to a local news outlet.اضافة اعلان

Hadid said on Sunday that the subsidy has been distributed to all yellow cabs and travel offices in the governorates, except for those in Amman.

He pointed out that there are about 11,000 yellow cabs and 4,000 white cabs in Amman, which have not received the subsidy until now.

He said that when they visited the Land Transport Regulatory Commission to ask about distributing the subsidy, they found out that the authority responsible for distributing it on public transportation vehicles in Amman is the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM).

Hadid noted that “when the GAM was asked about the subsidy, we were told that the request would be submitted to the prime minister’s office, and that there is no budget allocated to support the sector at the present time.”

“We were surprised at what is being talked about and the fact that allocating JD5 million to support the public transportation sector is only for public vehicles operating in the governorates,” he said.

Hadid added that the GAM is considering raising public transport fares, due to the lack of a sufficient budget to support the sector in Amman.
