AMMAN — The Secretary-General of the
Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, stated that the value of lands owned
by GAM is more than JD2.5 billion, with JD1 billion worth of these lands
available for investment.

Speaking at an investment conference held within the
framework of the
Economic Modernization Vision, Shawarbeh said that the Amman
Vision for Investment and Development Co. is achieving the GAM strategy of
improving its investment management property portfolio.
The municipality is contributing to the development of the
investment environment in Amman, by simplifying procedures for investors and
providing its services electronically to ensure fairness and integrity.
Investment venueShawarbeh highlighted that the municipality has worked to
establish the Amman Vision Company for Investment and Development, which has
finalized many agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) to serve the
Economic Modernization Vision.
He also pointed out that GAM is contributing to the
development of the investment environment in the capital Amman by simplifying
procedures for investors and providing its services electronically to ensure
fairness and integrity.
The investment conference discussed the role of investment
in stimulating growth opportunities, promoting innovation, facing global
challenges, developing the transport sector to stimulate the national economy,
and attracting investment to achieve development and the sustainability of
economic projects.
Shawarbeh emphasized that GAM is contributing to the
development of Amman as a smart city by implementing various projects,
including the smart traffic management project.
Transport strategyAccording to Shawarbeh, the municipality has prepared a
public transport strategy for the next 10 years, with the aim of developing the
public transport system in the Jordanian capital. The strategy includes making
Amman a smart city through various actions, such as the smart traffic
management project.
Speaking about the Amman Bus Rapid Transit system, Shawarbeh
said that GAM is currently preparing studies for its second phase.
Renewable energyShawarbeh revealed that 45 percent of the Amman
municipality's energy needs are generated from the Ghabawi waste dump. The
municipality is planning to develop more renewable energy sources in the
future.
