AMMAN — Director of slaughterhouses in the
Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), Shadi Othman, confirmed that 3,862 head of
sheep and 162 head of cows were inspected and slaughtered, in addition to
slaughtering and processing 49,671 poultry on Saturday.

Othman added that 48 tonnes of fresh imported and
vacuum-sealed chilled meat were also inspected, in addition to inspecting five
tonnes of chilled meat imported from Tanzania, and four tonnes of fresh fish,
while 380 tonnes of meat were displayed in a selling market.
He said that the
GAM has set the working hours of the Amman slaughterhouse during the holy month
of Ramadan from 6am–6pm.
A team of veterinarians affiliated with the
slaughterhouses department will accompany the unified inspection teams to
markets and malls to ensure the quality of the meat packaging and its
suitability for human consumption, and to address any complaints about meat and
poultry, according to Othman.
He called on people to look for the official
slaughterhouse seal when buying meat, and to purchase meat from licensed
stores.
