AMMAN —
Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Mayor Yousef Al-Shawarbeh said on Sunday that
the municipality is working on a complete traffic control system, installing
extra cameras across Amman to record traffic violations such as speeding, using
cellphones while driving, running red lights, and parking randomly, Khaberni
reported.

The mayor made this
statement during a meeting discussing investment opportunities in
transportation modernization at the Dead Sea, which was organized by the Senate
Services Committee, headed by Senator Mustafa Hamarneh.
Shawarbeh said that traffic violations are one of the main
causes of traffic congestion in Amman. Concerning public transportation, he
confirmed that the public transportation strategic plan, covering a period of
five to 10 years within the municipality limits, is being updated.
