According to a GFJTU statement Thursday, the event, which saw the participation of 5 United Nations agencies, aims to commit to shaping a future to empower the Arab youth to receive the "necessary" education, skills, and opportunities to join "decent" work and contribute to social and economic development at the pan-Arab level.

The statement added that the 2024 session focused on digital and green skills and jobs and women integration and empowerment in the labor market, reviewing progress made on the voluntary commitments made during the first meeting held in the capital, Amman, in 2022.

The GFJTU's participation came within an official delegation that comprised ministries of labour, education, higher education, youth, and digital economy, alongside representatives of the youth sector, headed by Jordanian Ambassador to Tunisia, Abdullah Abu Rumman, the statement pointed out.

During the dialogues, the GFJTU’s Youth Committee presented a working paper, themed :"Role of Trade Unions in the Arab Region in the Transition to Organized Work and Supporting Unorganized Workers".

The paper said trade unions play a "key" role in promoting the transition to an "organized" economy and labor, which represent workers and defend their rights.

Additionally, the paper called on strengthening these bodies' capabilities and deepening their understanding of the economic challenges, which have negative impacts on workers, primarily climate change, digitalization, and the technological revolution.
