AMMAN — The
campaign “Gaza: Together we are victorious,” has so far raised over JD1.7
million for reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip, organizers told Jordan
News.

Launched by
the Higher Committee for Construction in Palestine in collaboration with the
Engineers Association, the Contractors Association, and the Jordan Housing Developers
Association, organizers said that the first phase of reconstruction will target
infrastructure.
“Our first
priority in Gaza will be to remove debris and reconstructing the roads that
have been destroyed,” said the President of the Higher Committee for
Construction in Palestine and chief of the Jordan Engineers Association Ahmad
Samara Zubi.
While the
committee has been in place for eight years, this specific campaign was
launched in response to the recent attacks on the Gaza Strip.
“Our
job is construction,” Zubi told Jordan News. “We are not involved in any
private projects, instead, we work with public projects such as building
hospitals, medical clinics, schools, roads, and other developmental initiatives.”
The committee
in Jordan collaborates with a similar group of engineers in the Gaza Strip
throughout the process to help select, design, oversee, and eventually execute
the project.
Tens of
projects have been organized by the committee so far, all dedicated to the
reconstruction of public areas. Yet, the local reaction to this campaign has
been unprecedented.
“Rarely did
our previous campaigns exceed JD1 million,” said Zubi.
Entities
involved are working quickly to support those in Palestine who have suffered
during the recent attacks on Gaza. The resulting devastation has added a sense
of urgency to the campaign.
“This is one
of the most successful campaigns the association has organized in the recent
period and this is because of the community’s support,” campaign coordinator
and deputy president of the employee committee in the Engineer’s Association, Hossam
Talib, told Jordan News. “There was a lot of sympathy for this campaign
and in standing with our people in Palestine.”
Donations
will continue to be accepted until the end of June, Talib explained, and can be
made through some of the association’s centers, the Islamic Bank, exchange
centers, or through the website.
“As a
citizen, I am so proud to have participated in the campaign,” said Nasser
Sallam, a Jordanian local who donated to the ‘Gaza: Together we are victorious’
campaign. He heard about the initiative through social media channels such as
Facebook and through friends.
“This is the
minimum we can do to support our neighbors and give solidarity to Gaza and
Palestine against the Israeli occupation,” he said.
Any amount one
is able and willing to donate matters, Zubi said, and all support is greatly
appreciated. “I urge the community, despite our current difficult economic
situation, to help,” he said. “These construction projects in Gaza are a Jordanian national effort
that we take pride in.”
The campaign
is open and accepting donations through
http://www.jea.org.jo/donations, or via
deposits to the campaign’s account at the
Jordan Islamic Bank, with the IBAN
number JO86JIBA0020000025304512400006, according to organizers.
