AMMAN — Under the patronage of
HRH Princess Basma bint Talal, the regional
conference on "
Women's Economic Participation in the Arab World: Prospects
and Challenges" commenced on September 26. During the opening, it was
highlighted that gender gaps persist in the Middle East and North Africa, with
the region's gender gap estimated at 62.6 percent.

Economic participation and opportunities show a significant
gender gap of 44 percent, Ammon News reported.
This event was organized by the
Jordanian National Committee for Women's Affairs in collaboration with the
Arab Women's Organization and
GIZ.
Aims of the conference
The conference stressed the importance of women's economic
participation as a catalyst for growth and prosperity. Key amendments, including
constitutional changes, have been made to empower women, and there is a
commitment to implementing policies aimed at
gender equality in various
sectors.
The conference aims to exchange experiences and strategies
to enhance women's economic empowerment in the Arab world. It recognizes the
need to address and overcome barriers to achieve greater gender equality in
economic participation.
