AMMAN — The General Industrial Production Quantities indexrecorded a decline of 2.52 percent in the first third of 2023, reaching 88.52
points compared to 90.81 points in the corresponding period of 2022, according
to the Department of Statistics' (DoS) monthly report released on Monday.
The decrease in the index can be primarily attributed to a
3.24 percent reduction in quantities of transformative industries and a 0.98
percent decrease in electricity.
However, extractive industry quantities saw a growth of 3.67
percent during this period, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Drop in industrial production quantities
The report also highlighted a substantial decline of 4.60
percent in the index during April 2023, with a decrease to 88.21 points
compared to 92.47 points in April of the previous year.
The monthly decrease was primarily driven by transformative industries, which experienced a decline of 5.97 percent.
Conversely, extractive industries showed a growth of 3.28
percent, while electricity witnessed a slight increase of 5.82 percent in the
same month.
