AMMAN — The percentage of generated energy in the Kingdom
increased by 8 percent last year, compared to 2021, according to data released
by the Department of Statistics.

Meanwhile, the energy consumption rate during 2022 increased
by 6.6 percent, compared to 2021, Al-Mamlaka reported.
Per capita electricity usage on the rise
The statistics highlighted that per capita, electricity
consumption increased by 4.3 percent during the past year, compared to the
prior year. This came up to 1,821 kilowatts per hour in 2023, compared to 1,746
kilowatts per hours in the previous year.
The electricity consumption in the residential sector
accounted for 47.9 percent during the past year, while industrial consumption
reached 21.2 percent, and commercial consumption reached 14.7 percent.
Energy losses decrease, increased power accessibility
Additionally, 14.2 percent of electricity usage was
attributed to water pumping, and street lighting accounted for 2 percent of the
total consumption. The same data also indicated that the percentage of lost
energy reached 13.3 percent, while the percentage of the population supplied
with electricity was 99.9 percent.
The number of employees in the electricity sector rose to
7,690 people, during the past year, compared to 7,740 in 2021.
