Georgian cultural center to be built at Baptism site

AMMAN  — Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garbashvili laid the foundation for the Georgian Cultural Center building project in the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ, with the aim of promoting religious tourism between Jordan and Georgia, in the presence of HRH Prince Ghazi, His Majesty’s chief advisor for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Baptism Site Commission, reported Al-Mamlaka TV.اضافة اعلان

The visit by Georgian PM on Sunday, to the Baptism site also included a visit to Tel Mar Elias, the cave in which John the Baptist lived, and the ancient churches at the site.

Director-General of the Baptism Site Commission Rustom Mkhjian gave a summary of the important religious events that took place at the Tel Mar Elias site, stressing the keenness of the Baptism Site Commission’s Board of Trustees to preserve the religious site.

Garbashvili was presented with a certificate of visiting the site and holy water.

The laying of the foundation stone for the Georgian Cultural Center building project was attended by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez, Director General of the Jordan Tourism Board Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat, and Assistant Director of the Baptism Site Commission Abdul Aziz Al-Adwan.
