AMMAN — Jordan’s Minister of Finance Mohammad Al-Ississ, and
President of National Center for Disease Control and Prevention Raeda Al-Qutob,
signed an agreement on Tuesday with the KfW German Reconstruction Bank.

The agreement provides up to 39 million euros to support the
Jordanian government and the center.
According to a statement issued by the center, Qutob stated
that the agreement demonstrated the German government’s commitment to
cooperation efforts between the Kingdom and Germany development fields.
The funding will also strengthen the national capacity of
the Kingdom’s health system in dealing with and combating epidemics and
pandemics.
New construction of a centerThe allocated amount includes construction of a permanent
building for the center, the provision of advanced equipment and technologies
used in developed countries, and laboratories equipped with modern laboratory,
health, and computerized technologies.
The support will also benefit government entities related to
the center’s work and will quality and train various cadres.
Qutob emphasized that the German government's support comes
at an appropriate time, as the world faces many health challenges due to the
spread of epidemics and pandemics that require more coordination and support at
the national, regional, and global levels.
She added that the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need
for a specialized center in this field.
The establishment of the National Center for Disease Control
and Prevention came with the aim of coordinating all national efforts concerned
with preparedness, readiness, and response to current and future health
threats,.
It also aimed to enhance health security in the Kingdom, by
supporting healthcare providers and using scientific methods to prevent
epidemics and pandemics, non-communicable diseases, health risks, and their
control, and preserving biological security.
