A statement by the Ministry of Planning and
International Cooperation, carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said the
meeting convened in cooperation with the UN Coordinator Office in Jordan and
with the participation of representatives of various government entities and
other stakeholders.
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Planning Marwan
Rifai said that the interventions envisaged under the UN framework must be
consistent with the Jordanian context and must have a tangible and clear impact
on the life of Jordanian citizens.
Rifai called for strengthening the mechanisms of
transparency and joint accountability for both the government and UN
stakeholders under a governance framework that outlines related roles and
responsibilities.
Ghulam M. Isaczai, the UN resident and humanitarian
coordinator in Jordan, said the UN is committed to expanding its support to the
Kingdom’s advancement through conducive policies and strategies, financing
pathways that reduce exclusion, strengthening self-reliance opportunities among
the most vulnerable, including refugees, addressing water scarcity, in addition
to ensuring food security and access to clean energy.
The UN official added that UN support also includes
a focus on strengthening channels of communication between institutions and
people as an enabler of the sustainability of the key priorities.
A set of
priorities were discussed under the new cooperation framework, which include
supporting Jordan to achieve green growth and sustainable job opportunities,
promoting rights, and self-reliance opportunities, especially for women and
youth, and promoting sustainable management of water and energy resources,
among others.
The UN Development Cooperation Framework is a
strategic vehicle for planning and implementing UN development activities at
the country level to support the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals
and the 2030 Agenda as outlined in the General Assembly Resolution 72/279.
