AMMAN — The
government has recently revised the regulations for blood transfusion and its
components for the year 2024, the amended system specifies that donors must be
Jordanian citizens, holding a national ID or a Gaza document. It added, they
should be in good health, with ages ranging from 18 to 65 for males and 55 for
females if donating for the first time, as Al-Ghad reported. The amendments aim
to enhance blood transfusion services, ensuring the safety and health of both
donors and recipients.

Adhering to
the previous conditions for donors, the system emphasizes voluntary blood
donation without compensation. Donors must provide written consent using the
designated form, be informed of the potential risks, and undergo supervised
blood collection. The system sets limitations on the frequency of blood
donations, adhering to recognized scientific standards.
Moreover,
the amended system strictly prohibits blood harvesting, separation,
preservation, or distribution to patients except in authorized blood banks. The
regulations emphasize the need for technical capabilities to conduct infectious
disease tests on donated blood. However, if the blood is unused within 48
hours, it must be returned to the blood bank. The system encourages maintaining
records, either paper or electronic, for at least five years. It emphasizes the
importance of creating technical capabilities for infectious disease tests and
issuing related instructions.
