AMMAN — On Saturday, The Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship
Ahmed Al-Hanandeh said that the ministry has talked to telecommunications
companies about providing people with the government’s Sanad application free
of charge, according to Al-Ghad News.

The
deal would allow those with a smartphone but no mobile internet connection to
use the app to enter businesses and establishments. The companies have expressed
their willingness and initial approval on the government’s proposal.
The
minister explained, in press statements sent to Al-Ghad News, that companies
are studying the possibility of the proposal from a technical point of view and
will respond to the ministry within few days, but that they gave their initial
approval.
The
minister indicated that the proposal aims to improve the use of the
application, which will be further developed during the remaining months of
2021.
The
government also plans to release a tender next month to develop and manage the
application and turn it into a platform for all e-government services.
The minister reiterated
that downloading the Sanad application is not mandatory, and that people can
use their national number, personal number for residents, personal identification, vaccination
certificate, a negative PCR test, or health identity code to enter establishments.
Regarding
residents in Jordan, Hanandeh said: “They can extract the health certificate
from Sanad application via their personal number, while visitors can use the
code sent to them when they enter Jordan.”
Downloads of the
application in the past two weeks have increased by 800,000, compared to the
number of downloads recorded at the end of the first week of 2021, when they
reached nearly 450,000, according to the Ministry of Digital Economy and
Entrepreneurship.
In total, the app has
been downloaded 1.25 million times.The application is
currently available on the App Store for Apple devices, the Google Play Store
for Android devices, and the Huawei Store.
