AMMAN — The government
will float a tender for a rehabilitation of the first phase of the Baghdad
International Highway, the
Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahiya
Al-Kasbah announced on Monday.

The first phase of the
rehabilitation project is expected to cost JD3 million, and work is slated to
begin early next year, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.
In a press statement, the
ministry explained that the first phase of the project includes the renovation
of the old road from Salheyeh intersection to the Saidiya junction and from the
Al-Baij traffic light to the Um Al-Jimmal intersection, as well as an expansion
on both sides of the highway.
Furthermore, works will
include the implementation of water drainage systems, the reinforcement of
traffic safety elements, and the introduction of traffic lights in key areas.
The project was divided into
three parts. First, a stretch of 175km will be rehabilitated, followed by 90km
and 50km stretches.
